Onder de Duim

‘Onder de duim’ is a Dutch phrase meaning ‘controlled by’. It’s a double meaning since ‘duim’ means ‘thumb’, so literally it means ‘controlled by your thumb’ which is what you do when you hold your phone. 

This documentary explored the influence of social media on young adults. Social media has the words ‘social’ in it, but does it make us more social or less? The concept of social media is new but according to psychologist Mischa Coster the way we use social media and the way it influences us is not new, it just turned digital. 

The topic is investigated through a series of interviews with a victim of social media addiction, a media psychologist and an Instagram influencer. For the sake of the subject the story of the social media addiction is based on real world stories.
